Keynote Part 8 (Cloud)
Started with just about the lamest video I’ve ever seen with a guy dressed as a cloud doing the stupidest things… no one laughed. Bob Muglia, President, Server & Tools Business defines the definition of Cloud Computing. A pool of servers that provide software as a service.
Auto Pilot: Service that manages cloud clusters for Microsoft Bing. Automatically brings servers online when available and takes them down when problems occur.
Ideal cloud computing should be: always available, elastic, scaleable, service-oriented, model-driven, federated, failure resilient.
Application evolution through the cloud starts with moving an app to the cloud, then enhancing it to use cloud specific benefits such as : staging and elasticity.
Don Box and Chris Anderson show off some code in C++ to prove that its possible to connect to Azure with really low level languages. Also demoed connecting to SQL Azure using SQL Management Studio.
